Shoulder Carry Holsters

shoulder carryWhen carrying a concealed firearm, you have a lot of things to consider. One of the most important aspects is whether you are going to shoulder carry, waist carry, or use some other type of holster. The truth is, there are pros and cons to all, especially the shoulder carry style of holster.

The Advantage of a Shoulder Holster

The one major advantage to them is that you carry them like you would wear a backpack. This means that the weight of your weapon will not be something you carry on just one side. This is ideal if your primary firearm, perhaps your revolver, is a larger style gun or one that is heavy. They are also perfect for longer barreled guns and people who are very active since your shirt covers the weapon. They are also able in dual styles so that you can carry two of your favorite firearms at one time. As an added bonus, you will not have to worry about working on your vehicle and getting your handgun covered with dirt.

The Biggest Issue

shoulder holsterA shoulder, or underarm harness is not something everyone can work with and it is mostly because of the fact that they are hard to wear. It can take a lot of trial and error for you to put it on and have it fit the way that is most comfortable for you. It can be difficult to hide even a well-fitting one under your shirt without the supports being seen or the weapon itself through your shirt. They are also pricier than some of the other options and you may still not be happy with the final result. Another downside is that most manufacturers will not take a holster back after you have tested it out for a couple weeks because it will have already started to take on the sweaty odors and form of your body.
